The NBA Picker Wheel is a free random NBA team generator. It loads all 30 NBA teams, each slice shaded in the team's own color, and picks one at random when you spin. You can narrow the wheel to the Eastern or Western Conference or to a single division, edit the list by hand, and run elimination drafts.
It works in any modern browser on a phone, tablet or computer, with no sign-up and nothing to install.
What Is the NBA Picker Wheel?
It is a spinning wheel preloaded with every NBA franchise that chooses one team fairly at random. Use it whenever you need a neutral way to assign, draft or pick a team.
Each slice shows the team name, and with Use team colours switched on the slice takes that club's primary color, so the Lakers appear in purple and the Celtics in green. The wheel shows team names only, not logos. Untick Use team colours if you prefer the standard WheelPlay palette, which can be easier to read when several teams share navy or red.
How to Use the NBA Team Picker Wheel
Choose your filters, check the list, then spin. The whole thing takes a few seconds and needs no account.
- Leave Conference on All teams for the full 30, or choose East or West. Use Division to narrow it further.
- Check the entries box. Each line is one team, and you can delete or add lines freely.
- Spin by clicking the wheel, pressing the SPIN button, or pressing Ctrl+Enter (Cmd+Enter on a Mac). On a phone, a floating SPIN button appears when you scroll the wheel out of view.
- Read the result in the pop-up. From there you can Spin again, Remove from wheel, Copy the result, or share it to WhatsApp, X or Facebook.
Tip: for a quick yes-or-no between two teams, delete every other line so only those two remain.
Filter by Conference and Division
The Conference and Division menus cut the wheel down to part of the league. The NBA has 15 teams in each conference and three divisions of five teams in each conference.
Eastern Conference divisions
- Atlantic: Boston, Brooklyn, New York, Philadelphia, Toronto
- Central: Chicago, Cleveland, Detroit, Indiana, Milwaukee
- Southeast: Atlanta, Charlotte, Miami, Orlando, Washington
Western Conference divisions
- Northwest: Denver, Minnesota, Oklahoma City, Portland, Utah
- Pacific: Golden State, LA Clippers, Los Angeles Lakers, Phoenix, Sacramento
- Southwest: Dallas, Houston, Memphis, New Orleans, San Antonio
In the menu, divisions are labeled with their conference, such as East Atlantic or West Pacific. The two filters stay in sync: choosing a division also selects its conference, and switching conference clears a division from the other side, so the wheel is never empty. If the wheel comes up empty, the two choices do not overlap.
Spin Modes: Normal, Elimination and Accumulation
The Spin mode setting, in the Settings tab, decides what happens to a team after it wins. Pick the mode before you start a session.
Normal
Winners stay on the wheel, so the same team can come up twice in a row. Use it for one-off picks.
Elimination
Each winner is removed, so no team is picked twice. This is the mode for a draft order or a bracket: spin 30 times and you get a complete random order of the league. You can also remove a single winner by hand with Remove from wheel in the result pop-up.
Accumulation
Winners stay on, and the Results tab keeps score with a leaderboard of wins. It suits a running game such as "which team does the wheel like this week" across a whole watch party.
Whatever the mode, the Results tab lists every spin in order. Copy results puts the list on your clipboard and Clear results starts fresh.
Ways to Use a Random NBA Team Generator
Most people use the wheel to settle a choice nobody wants to make, from video game picks to draft order.
NBA 2K and other basketball games
Spin for the franchise you will take over in a MyNBA-style franchise mode, or for the team each player must use in a quick-play night. Elimination mode stops two friends from landing the same club.
Fantasy basketball draft order
Type each manager's name into the entries box instead of the teams, switch to Elimination, and spin until everyone has a slot. The Results tab gives you the order to copy into your league chat.
Watch parties and team selection
Assign each guest a team for the night, or hand out teams for an NBA 2K tournament so nobody can claim the draw was rigged.
Trivia and classrooms
Spin a team, then ask a question about it: its city, its division or a famous player. Teachers use the division filter to break geography lessons into smaller groups.
Is the NBA Wheel Fair?
Yes. In Normal mode every team on the wheel has exactly the same chance, unless you add weights yourself.
The result is chosen with your browser's crypto.getRandomValues, a cryptographically secure random number source, before the animation starts. The spin then lands on that pre-chosen slice, so the speed of your click, the spin length and the wheel's starting position have no effect on who wins.
Everything runs in your browser. Your list, saved wheels and results history are stored on your device and nothing is uploaded.
Customizing, Saving and Sharing Your Wheel
Edit the list by hand
The entries box holds one team per line. Delete a line to drop a team, type a new line to add one, or use Shuffle and Sort A–Z to reorder. Import .txt/.csv loads a list from a file, Clear empties the box, and Reset brings back the default list. Set your filters first, because changing a filter rebuilds the list.
Give some entries a better chance
Turn on Weights in the Settings tab, then put a number from 1 to 10 and a dot in front of a line. Writing "3.Los Angeles Lakers" gives that team three times the chance of a plain entry. Leave weights off when everyone expects an even draw.
Rename the result and set the pace
Result title changes the heading in the result pop-up, and Spin length sets how long the wheel turns, from 1 to 15 seconds. Confetti and sound can be switched on or off.
Save, share and embed
Save wheel keeps your list under My saved wheels in this browser. The share-link icon copies a URL that contains your entries and filters, so friends open the exact same wheel. The embed icon copies an iframe code for your own site or blog, and full screen hides the side panel for a TV or projector.
