A name in one spin
Choosing a team name can take longer than the activity itself. This wheel skips the debate: 26 upbeat, family-friendly names, from Thunder Owls and Pixel Pirates to The Puzzle Masters, ready to spin.
It suits quiz nights, school sports days, workshops, club activities and any event where groups need a quick identity.
Naming several teams
- Switch to Elimination mode so no two teams get the same name.
- Have a captain from each team press SPIN.
- Use the Results tab to note which team has which name.
- Add a slice like "Choose your own" if you want a wildcard.
If you also need to split people into groups, the Team Picker Wheel on WheelPlay does that first, then you can name each group here.
Make it fit your theme
The list is a starting point. For a science fair, add names like The Atom Smashers; for a book club quiz, add The Page Turners. Write your theme names in, delete the rest, and save the wheel. Weights let you favour names you like, for example 2.Rocket Squad.
Share the link with other organisers so everyone uses the same list, or embed the wheel on a class or club page.
Tips for organisers
Announce team names with a little ceremony. Spinning on a big screen, with each captain stepping up in turn, gets a quiz night or sports day off to a lively start. Write the names on a whiteboard or scoreboard as they are picked so nobody forgets them later in the event.
- Keep names short so they are easy to call out.
- Remove any name that might upset someone in the group.
- Let teams swap names by agreement if they really want to.
A good name builds team spirit, and a random one is often the most memorable.
Save the wheel after the event so next year's organisers can reuse the list.
