The Date Picker Wheel is a free random date generator in the form of a spinning wheel. Set a start and end date and every day in between becomes a slice; spin, and the wheel lands on one. You can leave out Saturdays and Sundays, or switch the wheel to pick just a day of the week, a month or a day of the month.
Use it to choose a meetup date, a deadline, a challenge day or a writing prompt when no date is better than another and you want the choice to be fair.
What is a date picker wheel?
It is a spinner that turns a range of dates into equal slices and chooses one at random. The wheel builds the list for you, so you never have to type dates by hand.
Each full date is shown with its weekday, day, month and year, written in your browser's own date format, so you can see at a glance whether the result falls on a Monday or a Friday.
How to pick a random date
Choose what you want to pick, set the range if needed, and spin. The options sit at the top of the Entries tab.
- Pick a: Full date, Day of the week, Month or Day of the month (1–31).
- From and To: the first and last date of the range. Both ends are included, and if you enter them the wrong way round the wheel swaps them for you.
- Skip weekends: leaves out Saturdays and Sundays for full dates and for days of the week.
- Spin by clicking the wheel, pressing SPIN or pressing Ctrl + Enter.
The result window shows the date with Spin again, Remove from wheel, Copy and share buttons. Every result is also saved in the Results tab.
The four pick modes explained
Each mode answers a different question, from "which exact day?" to "which month?".
Full date
Lists every day from From to To. The default range is today plus the next 30 days, and ranges of up to about ten years work. With long ranges the slices become too thin to label, but each date still has the same chance.
Day of the week
Seven slices, Monday to Sunday, or five with Skip weekends ticked. Good for choosing a regular meeting day or a weekly chore day.
Month
Twelve slices from January to December, useful for planning a trip, a birthday-month quiz or a seasonal challenge.
Day of the month
Numbers 1 to 31. Keep in mind that 29, 30 and 31 do not exist in every month; remove them from the list if you need a day that works in any month.
Editing the list of dates
The generated dates appear in the Entries box, one per line, and you can change them like any other list.
- Delete public holidays or days you are busy so they cannot be picked.
- Use Shuffle to mix the order of the slices, and Reset to return to the default range of today plus 30 days.
- Turn on weights in Settings and put 3. in front of a date to make it three times as likely, from 1 to 10.
Changing any option rebuilds the list, so set the options first and make your manual edits last.
Ways to use a random date generator
A random date picker settles scheduling arguments quickly and adds surprise to plans and games.
Work and planning
Pick a date for a team lunch, a review session or a random audit day. With Skip weekends on, only working days are possible.
Classrooms
Teachers spin for a quiz date, a presentation order or a historical date for students to research. Elimination mode gives each student a different day.
Personal life and fun
Choose a date night, a no-spend day, a day to start a new habit, a surprise outing or a random day for a writing or photo prompt.
Is every date equally likely?
Yes. Each slice has the same chance, and the winner is chosen with your browser's secure random number generator (crypto.getRandomValues) before the wheel starts turning.
The animation simply travels to the slice that was already picked, and earlier results have no effect on the next spin. The only way to change the probability is to switch on weights yourself.
Settings, saving and sharing
Settings let you choose how winners are handled and how the spin looks.
- Normal keeps every date on the wheel; Elimination removes each winner so no date comes up twice; Accumulation keeps a leaderboard of wins.
- Spin length runs from 1 to 15 seconds, and you can set a Result title, confetti and sound.
- Save wheel adds the list to My saved wheels, the share link sends the same dates to someone else, and the embed icon gives code to put the wheel on your website.
Everything is stored in your browser and nothing is uploaded. The wheel works on phones, with a floating SPIN button, and full screen mode hides the panel for group sessions.
