The Color Picker Wheel is a free spinning wheel that chooses a random color for you. It starts with 22 everyday named colors, from Red and Teal to Beige and Gold, and you can add any color you like by typing its name and HEX code. Spin, and the result shows a large swatch with HEX, RGB and HSL codes you can copy with one click.
It is useful whenever you are stuck choosing: a drawing prompt, an outfit, a team color, a classroom game or a starting point for a design. There is nothing to install and no account to create.
What is the Color Picker Wheel?
It is a random color picker shaped like a spinning wheel: every slice is painted in the color it stands for, and the pointer lands on one at random. Unlike a color chooser in a design app, you are not picking the color yourself; the wheel decides from the list you give it.
Each line in the Entries box is one slice. The preset list uses lines such as Red #E53935 or Sky Blue #4FC3F7, where the name is the label and the HEX code sets the slice color. That simple format is all you need to build your own color spinner.
How to use the color picker wheel
Spin the preset wheel straight away, or replace the list with your own colors first. The whole process takes a few seconds.
- Open the Entries tab and keep the 22 preset colors, or edit the list (one color per line).
- Spin by clicking the wheel, pressing the SPIN button or pressing Ctrl + Enter.
- When the wheel stops, the result window shows the color name, a swatch and its HEX, RGB and HSL codes.
- Click any code to copy it, or use Spin again, Remove from wheel, Copy or the WhatsApp, X and Facebook share buttons.
Every spin is also listed in the Results tab, where you can copy the full history or clear it.
How to add your own colors
Type a name followed by a HEX code on its own line, for example Coral #FF7F50, and that slice is painted in exactly that color. A line with only a code, such as #3EB489, also works and uses the code as its label.
Formats that work
- Six-digit HEX codes like #1E88E5, or the three-digit shorthand like #F80.
- Any label you like in front of the code: brand names, paint names or student names.
- A plain name with no code is still a slice, but it gets a default wheel color and has no real color values in the result, so add a code whenever you can.
Faster ways to build a list
Use Import .txt/.csv to load a list from a file, Sort A–Z to put names in order, Shuffle to mix the slices, Clear to start over and Reset to bring back the 22 presets.
What HEX, RGB and HSL mean
They are three ways of writing the same color, and the wheel gives you all three so you can paste the one your tool expects.
- HEX: a six-character code such as #E53935, used in CSS, Figma, Canva and most design apps. The pairs of characters stand for red, green and blue.
- RGB: the same red, green and blue amounts written as numbers from 0 to 255, for example rgb(229, 57, 53).
- HSL: hue (the position on the color wheel, 0 to 360 degrees), saturation (how intense) and lightness (how light or dark), for example hsl(1, 77%, 55%). It is handy when you want a lighter or softer version of a color.
Spin modes and settings
The Settings tab controls how the wheel behaves, and the choices are remembered in your browser.
- Normal: every color stays on the wheel, so repeats are possible.
- Elimination: each color is removed after it wins, so you work through the list without repeats.
- Accumulation: the wheel keeps score and shows a leaderboard of the most frequent winners.
- Spin length from 1 to 15 seconds, a custom Result title, confetti on or off and a sound toggle.
- Weights: turn them on and write 3.Red #E53935 to give Red three times the chance of a normal slice (1 to 10).
Ways to use a random color picker
A color picker wheel is best when any of several colors would work and you want a quick, fair way to choose one.
Design and art
Spin for a main color for a poster, a sketch or a mood board, then copy the HEX code into your design tool. Artists use it for limited-palette challenges, painting only with the colors the wheel picks.
Classrooms
Teachers use it to call out colors in early-years vocabulary games, to assign table colors or to start an art lesson. Elimination mode makes sure every color is used once.
Games and everyday choices
Pick team colors, a color for a scavenger hunt, a theme for a party or what to wear tomorrow. Families play quick find-something-this-color games around the house.
Is the color picker wheel fair?
Yes. The winning color is chosen with your browser's secure random number generator (crypto.getRandomValues) before the animation starts, and the wheel then spins to land on it.
Every slice has the same chance unless you switch on weights, in which case the chance matches the weight and the slice is drawn larger so you can see the difference. Previous results never affect the next spin.
Saving, sharing and privacy
Your list is kept in your browser automatically, and you can name it with Save wheel to find it later under My saved wheels.
- The share icon under the wheel copies a link that contains your colors, so anyone who opens it gets the same wheel.
- The embed icon copies an iframe code so you can place the wheel on your own website or class page.
- The full-screen icon hides the side panel, which works well on a projector.
Nothing is uploaded: entries, results and settings are stored only on your device. The wheel works on phones too, with a floating SPIN button when you scroll down.
