The Image Picker Wheel is a free spinning wheel made of your own pictures. Add photos, logos, drawings or screenshots, give them captions if you like, and spin; the wheel lands on one image and shows it large in the result window.
Because pictures are often personal, the wheel works entirely on your device. Images are resized in your browser and stored there, and nothing is sent to a server.
What is an image picker wheel?
It is a random image picker that puts each picture on its own slice of a wheel and chooses one at random. Faces, food, places and objects are often easier to recognize than words, which makes a picture wheel ideal for young children, mixed-language groups and visual games.
Each slice shows a round crop of the image, with its caption next to it when there is room.
How to use the image picker wheel
Add your pictures, check the captions, and spin. It takes less than a minute.
- Press + Add images and choose JPG, PNG, WebP or GIF files, up to 40 at a time. Repeat to add more batches.
- Each picture appears in a grid with a caption box. The caption starts as the file name; edit it, or clear it if you want the image alone.
- Remove a picture with its ✕ button, mix the order with Shuffle, or start again with Clear.
- Spin by clicking the wheel, the SPIN button or Ctrl + Enter.
The result window shows the winning picture with its caption, plus Spin again, Remove from wheel, Copy (which copies the caption) and share buttons for WhatsApp, X and Facebook.
What happens to your images?
They never leave your device. Each picture is cropped to a centered square and shrunk to 192 pixels in your browser, then kept in your browser's local storage.
- No upload means no waiting and no copies of your photos on someone else's server.
- Small files also keep the wheel fast with dozens of slices.
- Browsers limit how much a site can store. If you add a very large set, the wheel still works for this visit but may not remember every image after you close the page; you will see a short notice when that happens.
For the same reason, image wheels cannot be sent as a share link, and the embed code does not carry your pictures. Save wheel keeps your images on this device so they are there next time.
Ideas for a random picture picker
Anything you can photograph can go on the wheel, so the uses are wide.
Classrooms
Pick a student by photo, choose a picture for a describing or storytelling task, or run vocabulary games where children name the object the wheel lands on. Elimination mode makes sure every picture comes up once.
Decisions
Photograph menus or dishes to choose dinner, add screenshots of holiday destinations, or put product options on the wheel when you cannot decide between them.
Games and creative work
Use drawings as Pictionary or charades prompts, spin through pets or toys for a family game, or pick a reference image for a sketching session. Designers can put logo or layout options on the wheel for a light-hearted team vote.
Captions: when to use them
Captions are optional, but they help whenever the picture alone could be ambiguous.
- Add names under student photos so the result reads clearly on a projector.
- Keep captions short; long ones are shortened on the slice to fit, though the full caption shows in the result.
- Leave captions empty for guessing games, so players must work out what the picture shows.
- Use clear, close-up photos with the subject in the middle; the square crop keeps the center of each picture and trims the edges.
Is the image wheel random and fair?
Yes. Every picture gets an equal slice and an equal chance, and the winner is chosen with your browser's secure random number generator (crypto.getRandomValues) before the spin begins.
The animation then turns the wheel to the chosen slice. File size, file name and upload order have no effect on the probability, and past results do not influence future spins.
Settings and display options
The Settings tab works the same way as on every WheelPlay wheel.
- Normal keeps winners on the wheel, Elimination removes each winning picture, and Accumulation keeps a leaderboard of which images win most often.
- Spin length runs from 1 to 15 seconds, and you can set a Result title, turn confetti off or toggle the sound.
- The full-screen icon hides the side panel so the pictures are as large as possible on a classroom screen or TV.
- The Results tab lists past winners by caption, with Copy results and Clear results buttons.
On a phone, choose pictures straight from your gallery or camera roll, and use the floating SPIN button when the wheel is scrolled out of view.
