The Country Picker Wheel is a free random country generator. It holds about 195 countries, each with its flag, and spins to land on one. Keep the whole world on the wheel or narrow it to Africa, Asia, Europe, North America, South America or Oceania.
People use it for travel inspiration, geography lessons, flag quizzes, cooking challenges and games. It runs in your browser with no sign-up.
What is the Country Picker Wheel?
It is a spinning wheel preloaded with the countries of the world, so you do not have to type a single name. Each slice is one country, every slice is the same size, and the result window opens with "Pack your bags for…" followed by the winner.
The list covers the UN member states plus a few widely recognized others, such as Palestine, Taiwan and Vatican City.
How to pick a random country
Choose a region, decide on flags, and spin. The two options sit at the top of the Entries tab.
- Continent: Whole world, or one of the six continents.
- Show flags: adds each country's flag emoji in front of its name; untick it for plain names.
- Spin by clicking the wheel, the SPIN button or Ctrl + Enter.
- Use the result buttons to Spin again, Remove from wheel, Copy the name or share it on WhatsApp, X or Facebook.
Every winner is listed in the Results tab, and Copy results gives you the whole list at once, which is handy for planning or quiz answer sheets.
How many countries are on each continent?
The whole-world wheel has about 195 countries. Choosing a continent replaces the list with that continent's countries only:
- Africa: 53 countries, the largest group.
- Asia: 48 countries, including the Middle East and the Caucasus.
- Europe: 45 countries, including Russia.
- North America: 23 countries, including Central America and the Caribbean.
- Oceania: 14 countries, from Australia and New Zealand to the Pacific islands.
- South America: 12 countries.
Some countries span two continents, such as Russia, Türkiye or Egypt; each appears once, under the continent where it is most commonly listed.
Customizing the country list
The countries appear in the Entries box, one per line, so you can shape the wheel to your plans.
- Delete countries you have already visited, or keep only the ones on your wish list.
- Type in a region, territory or city that is not on the list; any line becomes a slice.
- Switch on weights in Settings and write 3. before a name to make it three times as likely (1 to 10).
- Shuffle, Sort A–Z, Import .txt/.csv, Clear and Reset (back to the whole world) are under the list.
Changing the Continent or Show flags option rebuilds the list, so choose those first and make manual edits afterwards.
Ways to use a random country generator
A random country is a simple prompt that works for learning, planning and play.
Travel
Spin for your next trip, or narrow it to one continent when you already know roughly where you want to go. Remove countries you cannot reach to keep the wheel realistic. Groups planning a trip together can use Accumulation mode: spin ten times each and let the country with the most wins go on the shortlist.
Classrooms
Teachers spin for a country to research, present or find on a map. With Elimination mode each student gets a different country, and turning flags off makes a good guess-the-flag or capital-city warm-up.
Food, culture and games
Cook a dish from the country you land on, watch a film from it, or use the wheel as a geography trivia generator on game night. Language learners can spin for a country and practice a few words of its main language each day.
Is every country equally likely?
Yes. Every country has the same chance regardless of size or population, and the winner is chosen with your browser's secure random number generator (crypto.getRandomValues) before the wheel starts spinning.
The animation then lands on the chosen slice. With about 195 slices on the wheel, each country has roughly a 1 in 195 chance on any spin; narrowing to South America makes it 1 in 12.
Flags, settings and sharing
Flags are emoji, so how they look depends on your device. Some systems, Windows in particular, show two-letter country codes instead of flags; untick Show flags if you prefer plain names.
- Spin modes: Normal keeps every country, Elimination removes each winner, and Accumulation keeps a leaderboard of wins.
- Spin length from 1 to 15 seconds, a custom Result title, confetti and sound are in the Settings tab.
- Save wheel stores your list under My saved wheels, the share link sends the same wheel to friends, and the embed icon gives iframe code for your own site.
- Full screen hides the side panel for classroom projectors, and phones get a floating SPIN button.
Your lists, settings and results stay in your browser; nothing is uploaded.
